Landscape bodies

There are two leading professional landscape bodies in the UK – The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and the Association of Professional Landscapers (APL). Both have a screening process prior to admission, code of conduct, lists of members, and dispute resolution systems in the event of any problems.

However, it is worth remembering there are many excellent landscapers who may choose not to be members of a trade organisation. Good landscapers will be happy to provide you with the following:

Adequate insurance cover in place for all risks that could affect you, your property, the landscaper’s team and any sub-contractors they may use.
A written quotation detailing the work to be done, materials to be used, price to be paid, clearance of waste and a completion date.

Always ask to speak to recent customers for a reference. Word of mouth is helpful, because making the wrong choice could lead to considerable disappointment.
